Ghost on a Post
Photograph by Laura Ingham
The month of December 2025 became the beginning of an amazing winter thanks to our visitor raptor, the male Northern Harrier also known as the Gray Ghost. He spent this particular morning scouring and sailing above the field in search of his breakfast, the vole. The wooden fence post became a place to land and groom himself. I was able to walk along a trail, lean up against another fence and watch through my lens as he ruffled his feathers, cleaned his beak of food and manicured his talons. This one particular image became one of my favorites. Him staring right at me. No fear. Completely comfortable with my presence. His eyes glowing golden. The surrounding field created such a dreamy backdrop. It was such a fantastic experience to watch nature in it's element.
