The Maple Passage

一期一会: “One time, one meeting”
“Every meeting has a unique essence, and will never be repeated. Perhaps we’ll run into the same people or the same place again. but we’ll be older, our situation and our humour will be distinct, we’ll be carrying the weight of other priorities and other experiences. The universe is in a constant state of flux, and so are we. That’s why nothing will ever happen again, in the same way.” -Héctor García & Francesc Miralles
The night before this photo, I sat alone on a hidden stretch of Lake Kawaguchi's shore, with only my thoughts and Mount Fuji for company. I watched the sun slip slowly out of sight.
As the darkness settled, I thought about the long path of moments that had led me here. The last few years have been complicated for me. I've laughed. I've cried. I've changed. I've stayed the same. I've felt lost, and I've put broken pieces back together again. I've struggled. I've thrived. I've grown older and seen more. I've regretted the past, mourned the future that never was, and waited out the present.
I hope to return later this autumn. I wonder what will have changed by then, in this place and in me.
