Gossip at the Rookery

Photograph by Paul Birtwhistle

I arrived at the rookery a little too late to capture the Great Blue Herons in good light so I dialed down the aperture to get the silhouette effect.
I was very pleased with the moodiness of the sky and the grouping of the birds and nests. The resulting image always makes me think that the birds are gossiping about the events of the day or planning tomorrow’s adventures.
