Underwater Uber

This image was taken during a blackwater dive off Anilao in the Philippines. Blackwater dives entail going out into deep waters at night to observe rarely seen animals the come up from the depths or pelagic animals drifting in the open ocean. On one such dive, I encountered this male nautilus riding atop a beautiful jellyfish. Although these fascinating animals are frequently observed hitching rides on jellyfish, the exact reason is still up for debate.
