Come Fly With Me
Photograph by Terry Thompson
Early one December morning at Bosque del Apache in New Mexico my wife and I went out to the preserve to see if I could get any good images of the birds taking off at sunrise. It requires a lot of patience and attention as it is hard to know when the cranes are going to lift off. As the sky started to take on some color I kept an eye on the birds activities on the water. All of a sudden I saw this crane take off with two others in tow as they headed for the days feeding grounds. I was glad I was paying attention and caught them at the right moment. The preserve is always a magical place in the winter.
