Mother and Kit
Photograph by Jordan Grigg
During Covid, I found a mother red fox and her three kits in the woods near my work. I got to spend a few evenings quietly watching them before I made this image. Near the end of those evenings, the mother leaned down and nuzzled one of her kits, and the kit looked up at her for just a second. It hit home, because I had a 3-year-old at home myself. In a season when everything felt uncertain, here was the same simple affection I showed my own child every day, happening in the grass and wildflowers. We're not so different in the way we love our little ones.
