Unexpected Discovery

Photograph by Margot Cheel

I was on assignment for an aerial photo of a home beside the bay. It was lower tide than normal which drained the water from the area and left an ugly mud flat. Not desirable. Another day with high tide was needed.
Returning over the bay to my home airport, I started noticing a difference in the flats. There were patterns and colors in shallow waters depending on the angle of the light. Something red and white caught my eye and when I got closer, I could see it was a buoy in the shape of a lighthouse, surrounded by rich shades of green and blue amidst the rocks. The view from above looked almost painterly .
While the house portrait had to wait, something else to photograph unexpectedly appeared. It reminded me of the saying - "Life (and photo opportunity) happens when you are doing something else."
