A Moment Between Worlds

Photograph by Rick Conner

Deep in the woods, a barred owl’s call drifted through the trees, breaking the stillness and drawing me closer. There, among the shifting shadows, I found this quiet creature, watchful and unhurried, surveying its woodland world.

For a few fleeting minutes, we shared the same silence. I stood in awe of its presence—its ancient gaze, the intricate patterns of its feathers, the quiet grace of a creature so perfectly at home in the wild.

Then, as quietly as it had begun, the moment passed. What remained was this image: a small window into a world that asks nothing of us but to slow down, pay attention, and remember our place within it.
